Extrait of Press - Dauphiné 1970 Matter on the castle of the way of vines BOZEL on right bank of Doron to one kilometer North-western of Bozel at the edge of the old road connecting Bozel to Moutiers (the current way of the vignes)est located a palate of which there remains nothing any more but the lower part This palate which one calls today " the castle " would already have been occupied by the archbishops of Tarentaise to XIIIe century. It was then composed of three stages and a strong tower served by a revolving staircase. The higher stage and the large tower were demolished by the revolutionists at the end of the XVIIe century. Only remain the ground floor and a part of the first stage which gives an idea of old size of this palate. Located in a privileged position from where one discovers all the valley of Bozel, it was surrounded splendid orchards planted fruit trees. According to the Garin abbot, one finds his trace for the first time like residence of the archbishops of Tarentaise in transaction between Amédée of Savoy and the archbishop. Jean III of Bertrand concludes in 1358. In 1655 by rebuilding the retaining walls of orchard, one discovered the large caveaux one arched in whom three craniums and several remains of human bones were and a metal cross. These caveaux thus seems to be tombs where one deposited the bodies of the inhabitants of Bozel who died. In 1880 these cellars were municipal property of the borough of Bozel and were used as place of storage of Gruyere. The higher part was used as house common of 1830 to 1860. This palate was sold since to various owners who transformed it and preserved in good condition
